摘要The northern Hsuehshan Range comprised of Eocene rift basin to Miocene post break up strata. Previous studies found Nummulites junbarensis in the Szeleng Sandstone which indicates it belongs to middle to early Eocene strata and considered a break up unconformity or very slow sedimentation rate between the Szeleng Sandstone and overlaying Oligocene Paling Formation. Here we use the detrital zircon U–Pb dating of Hsitsun Formation to constraint the strata age. We obtained 35.4 ± 1.1 Ma detrital zircon age and considering near 10% Cenozoic grains were obtain in T7-13 samples which infers the deposit age of the Hsitsun Formation is near the 35 Ma. Combining with strata age of Oligocene Paling Formation the strata age of the Szeleng Sandstone is between 35 Ma and 30 Ma and it can be correlated with Meichi Sandstone. This identifies the Nummulites junbarensis in Szeleng Sandstone is reworked fossil, or its last appearance datum near Taiwan could extend to the Late Eocene, even the Early Oligocene. There is no break-up unconformity between the Szeleng Sandstone and Paling Formation.
