摘要Abstract
Science museums/centers have been regarded as one of the most important designed settings and have been studied much more than other settings. The major goal of this chapter is to describe national policies and practices of science museums/centers, and research in science learning in informal environments in East Asia, mostly Korea and Taiwan in the last 20 years. National plans or cultural projects have been established and executed to promote and improve learning in science museums/centers. The numbers of science museums and centers have been increasing and the quality of exhibitions and education at these centers has been improved in Korea and Taiwan. However, there are still many challenges in many areas including policies, management, exhibition, education, and networking. Research in science learning in informal settings has been increasing in terms of number and quality during last 20 years. Major themes of the research are grouped into status study, public understanding of science, science curriculum, facilitation of science learning, and educational quality of science museums/centers. Major findings among these main themes are reviewed and summarized in this chapter. Korea and Taiwan showed similarities and differences in terms of themes, subjects, and educational programs.
