| 摘要 | This study aims to investigate the abundance and distribution of echinoderms in coastal northern Taiwan. Between July 2022 and August 2023, we conducted echinoderm fauna survey at 10 sites along the coastline in the area. In total, 57 echinoderm species representing 28 families and 16 orders from all five classes were recorded. Among them, there are eight crinoid (feather star) species of four families and one order (one locale new record species), nine asteroid (sea star) species of six families and three orders (one locale new record species), 16 echinoid (sea urchin) species of six families and five orders (two species of one family are locale new records), 13 holothuroid (sea cucumber) species of six families and four orders (three species of three families are locale new records), and 11 ophiuroid (brittle star) species of six families and three orders (two species of one family are locale new records). In most sites of the study area, the mid-large sea cucumbers are low in abundance presumedly by environment change and habitat degradation. Contrast with other sites, the subtidal site Mao’ao Bay embraces stable populations of the sea cucumber Holothuria atra and H. leucospilota. We propose that long-term monitoring should be conducted on population dynamics of these two sea cucumbers in Mao’ao Bay. |
