| 摘要 | Biodiversity, species conservation and environmental issues are important topic in the regular education burden of science museums. It is difficult to arouse the general public's awareness of conservation of endangered species due to their ugly appearance. National Museum of Marine Science (NMMS, Taiwan) launched a horseshoe crab care program in 2024. NMMS introduced the knowledge of raising horseshoe crabs in a classroom aquarium in a teacher workshop for science teachers of grade 3 to grade 9, and encouraged these teachers preparing lessons to teach in their classroom. After the workshop, NMMS provide the raising kits to teachers who submitted their teaching plan and regular consultation visits for maintaining horseshoe crab aquariums. All classes can maintain horseshoe crab growth to the second instar, some classes' horseshoe crab grew to the third instar and still keeping alive. The NMMS will conduct horseshoe crab release activities invite students bring their horseshoe crab children releasing back to their native habitat. The primary school teachers reported that their 9-year-old (grade 3) students had well practiced their grade 3 science process skills during parenting horseshoe crab and students showed their patience and persistence while they met difficulties in the process of raising horseshoe crab. Teachers also reported some parents' positive feedback for conservation endangered species. How science museum learned from the case study and the differences in responses of students with different ages to this program also discussed. |
