摘要 | Fire poses a significant threat to museum collections, with potential damages extending beyond direct fire damage to include smoke and water damage during firefighting efforts. The catastrophic fire at Brazil's Museu Nacional in September 2018 underscored the critical need for robust fire safety protocols within the museum community. This study focuses on the National Museum of Natural Science in Taiwan, detailing its comprehensive approach to both daytime and nighttime fire drills. The museum's preparatory measures include drafting disaster relief scripts, establishing real-time reporting network, and training staff on initial firefighting techniques, equipment use, evacuation routes, and the rescue of valuable specimens (particularly type specimens). Notably, the museum utilizes advanced Disaster Prevention Technology, such as Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus and Storage Access Control systems, to promptly address and mitigate disaster risks. During these drills, a fire chief provides guidance, and post-drill review and improvement meetings are conducted to refine procedures. This case study highlights how rigorous training and technological advancements can empower museum staff, enhance disaster resilience, and minimize the impact of fires on museum collections and personnel. |
