摘要 | Being human is to live by metaphors, which structure how we perceive and think, and what we do (George Lakoff & Mark Johnson, 2006). Since material forms, such as body and houses, are "solid metaphor" (Christopher Tilley, 1999), this paper illustrates how the Chinese diaspora in juancun, struggle to make themselves home from home in Taiwan after World War II by everyday imagineering of “retrospection, superimposition, and anticipation” in material culture, particularly in houses and gardens. By recognizing the idea of “the metaphorical process as imagination” (Paul Ricœur, 1978), and of “Object” at the central circle of a set of concentric ones surrounded by “Situated production, creativity, individual imagination,” “Institutional field,” and the “Field of the socially imagined” (Øivind Fuglerud & Leon Wainwright, 2015), objects in the perpetuation of our social worlds and imagination together, or an anthropology of imagination, is not only good to think with but bring us closer to the understanding of being human in the world of diaspora, transnational culture flows, and mass movements of populations. |
