摘要 Competency-based learning has raised worldwide attention to educate lifelong learners who are capable of dealing with complex issues for incoming future challenges in recent years. Competency refers to a high-level ability to integrate the learned knowledge, experiences and related skills to solve facing problems in reality, such as critical thinking, creativity, or social skills. However, most schools have difficulties to promote competency-based education due to a lack of interdisciplinary resources and professionals in developing proper curriculums. Comparing to school education, museums not only provide a lifelong edutainment environment with flexible choices for the public, but also provide fruitful interdisciplinary learning resources to support competency-based education. However, the lack of proper scaffolds and supports negatively affect learner learning in museums. Besides, there is a need to consider the effects of individual differences on learning to effectively support diverse learners.
This study propose an innovative learning model to support competency education for lifelong learning in museum contexts. A game-based learning service named CoboFun with various types of problem-solving activities was developed to facilitate learner interacting with museum exhibits and the others in museum contexts. To examine the service design of CoboFun, learner’s perceptions were evaluated. Besides, the differences between learners with different cognitive styles were examined, i.e., the Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FI). The results showed both FI and FD learners enjoyed learning with CoboFun in museums. However, there is a need to provide flexible learning tools to satisfy the different needs for the learners with different cognitive styles.
