| 摘要 | This study conducted a comprehensive karyotype analysis of Cirsium (Compositae) species in Taiwan to clarify their taxonomic relationships. Twelve indigenous Cirsium taxa were examined. Detailed karyotype data for all Taiwanese taxa are reported here for the first time, including the first documentation of the karyotypes of C. ferum, C. japonicum var. fukienense, C. suzukii, and C. arisanense f. purpurescens. Most Taiwanese Cirsium species exhibited a chromosome number of 2n = 34, although counts of 2n = 30 and 2n = 32 were also observed. Karyotype comparisons revealed differences among taxa in structure, asymmetry, and the presence of satellite chromosomes, indicating that these characters have substantial taxonomic value. To further assess karyotypic diversity, cluster analysis using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean and principal component analysis were performed. The results provide new insights into the classification of Taiwanese Cirsium and highlight the taxonomic importance of satellite chromosomes, especially in C. suzukii, C. taiwanense, and C. ferum. |
