摘要Museums not only preserve but also activate their collections, serving the public as both guardians and facilitators. They ensure the long-term preservation and engagement with these collections. By opening storage facilities, we offer the public a unique opportunity to glimpse the hidden treasures within and gain a deeper understanding of their behind-the-scenes research, management, and operations. In 2023, the museum conducted four public openings of its storage areas, featuring collections from biology, geology, and anthropology. These events included live demonstrations of specimen preparation, restoration, and conservation. Visitor feedback, collected through questionnaires, revealed high satisfaction and a strong interest in the continuation of such initiatives. This case study highlights the museum's efforts to democratize access to scientific knowledge and to integrate diverse community perspectives into its practices. By doing so, it not only enhances the value of its collections but also contributes to a more inclusive understanding of Taiwan’s natural and cultural heritage.
