摘要The geological framework in south-west Taiwan is featured with inland mud diapirs distributed along major anticlines intruding thick mudstone strata. Tectonic model suggests that crustal deformation in south-west Taiwan is controlled by the development of fold-and-thrust belt. In the past, it is generally believed that inland mud diapirs are no longer active especially in orogenic foothills. However, careful study of the patterns of horizontal and vertical velocity gradients along the same velocity profile indicated a hidden active load, aside from the well-studied active faulting, must be there jointly dominating the present day crustal deformation in this area. Moreover, the asymmetricity of anticlines in south west Taiwan hints a coupling mechanism driven by both back-thrusting and active upward intrusions. Absolute gravimmetry is a promising technique to trace a density-contrast related dynamics in the strata through constant monitoring of gravity observations. A monitoring site at Wandan was set up in 2015 to verity the hypothesis of an active mud diapir underneath. Gravity measurements were carried out at least once a year. The 6-year gravity series, after the correction of environmental effects, shows an increasing trend. Mathematical model was developed to elaborate the possible dimensions and dynamics of an uprising mud diapir.
