摘要 | Science Museums and science centers are well-known as public science learning resource. And most of these facilities are state owned; they had the mission of public science education. This study reviewed the five main state owned science center/museums’ official documents in Taiwan, to analysis what the role in formal science education, how does the government expect them function in public science education, and what were their duties in the future. The research findings include below: Two of the five science museums hold most of on-site education activities by the staff; The latest two museums built then transferring to private sector for operation, the public sector of education put efforts on facilitating community activity and school marine biology/technology education; The only one national science center’s major task is to host international/ national under-high school science affairs and out-reach science cargo to schools. In the future, the education policy elongated the citizen compulsory education to high schools in Taiwan. This made high schools and junior high schools need to transform their instruction from school entrance examination oriented into diversified teaching. Three of the science museums set new duty for serving teachers resource to development diversified teaching. At the end of the presentation would introduce the approach of how science museums cooperation with schools.
