著作名稱High School Students’ Non-formal Science Learning Preferences In Science Museum.
摘要In science museums, various types of activity are organized by museum staffs to facilitate science learning. Most of these activities are targeted at primary school students or families with at least 1 child. High school students are treated as adults who can find their own interests and learn independently. The education policy in Taiwan extended the compulsory education of citizens to high school level, thus compelling high schools to transform their instruction from college entrance examination-oriented into diversified instruction.
This study determined the types of museum-organized activity that could motivate the science learning of tenth-grade students. A total of 92 tenth-grade students from 2 classes participated in this study. The high school students came from the urban edge of Taichung City, Taiwan. The average PR value of the students for the academic achievement test was 75. They visited the National Museum of Natural Science twice during November 2013 to December 2013. Each visit included an exhibition explanatory tour, operative exhibits, worksheets for exploratory exhibits, and thematic lectures. After each visit, the students submitted a visit diary (a maximum of 600 words) as feedback. Their diaries were coded into several episodes and analyzed according to that which impressed them the most (e.g., exhibits, events that occurred during the visits, facilities, presenters, and lecturers) and how they evaluated these impressions (positive or negative). The research findings are presented as follows: (a) the students preferred observing by themselves to using worksheets; (b) some of the students reported that worksheets helped them focus on inquiring about an exhibition, but others reported that the worksheets limited their learning; (c) the students described the presentations they attended during the visit (both the guided tour and lectures) more frequently and in more detail than they did the exhibition and exhibits; and (d) exhibits without a hands-on or press-response design could attract most of the students. Based on these findings, this paper provides suggestions for planning a visit to science museums for high school students.
