摘要 | Many school teachers doubt about students could learn something from museum visit, and the value for go museum to learn. Drawing upon the content knowledge analysis of rocks and mineral, this study aimed at (1) making comparison between what students learn in the classroom and museum; (2) interpreting the unique value for learning in museum context. Four 7 grade classes were involved in the study. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were adopted. Two of the classes attended a two hours museum learning activity which organized as object centered approach. The first hour as an introduction for mineral and their crystal settling with lots specimens, the second hour working by groups for “picking crystal grains” activity. The other two classes took the same lecture for mineral and their crystal setting as usual lecture approach, and worked “picking crystal grains” activity in classroom. Following the ethnography of communication analysis approach, researcher makes observation during the process. Associate with individual interview to teachers and students, collecting students’ weekly diary and after visit/course questionnaire. The findings showed no significance difference between students get content knowledge from classroom context or museum context. Students learned in museum catching more concrete trait about mineral and their crystal setting; those whom learned in classroom remembered more textbook text content. And museum context is good for both negative self image and positive self image students in science accustom to learn team work and discussion with peers. According the findings above, museum context do good for science learning because of it provide more chances to access real specimen as background to interpret the text they read in textbook.
