摘要This report presents the only fossil record of the Early Cretaceous Radiolaria for the Philippine Sea Plate. Totally 47 species are figured herein. All radiolarians were discovered from Lanyu, a volanic islet to the southeast of Taiwan. They were extracted from cherts, which have only been found as floats occurring in northern Lanyu. The results of this study indicate that the age of the Lanyu radiolarian assemblage is late early Barremian, Early Cretaceous, about 115 Ma. Early Barremian radiolarian faunas similar to the studied assemblage have been reported for the North Pacific core samples from Legs 32 and 62 of the Deep Sea Drilling Project. The co-occurrence of the pre-Tertiary radiolarian cherts and the Cenozoic andesites indicates that the deepwater deposits of the former oceanic plate must have been carried out by the Cenozoic volcanic eruptions since late Oligocene times. This further suggests that there must be a piece of Early Cretaceous oceanic crust trapped in or underneath the Philippine Sea Plate.
